Excessive sweating, or Hyperhidrosis, is when you have higher than normal levels of body sweat in the underarms, hands, and feet. Excessive sweating can be a source of inconvenience, discomfort and embarrassment and have an affect on your work and social life.
What Causes Excessive Sweating
Most people sweat naturally through exercise, exertion, in hot weather, or even when under stress. Hyperhidrosis, however, is abnormally excessive sweating in the underarms, hands, and feet that’s not necessarily related to heat or exercise.
Sometimes hyperhidrosis is caused by an underlying medical condition such as diabetes or an overactive thyroid. In other cases, it can be successfully treated through lifestyle and diet modifications, and the neurotoxin Botox, FDA-approved for excessive underarm sweating.

BOTOX® treatment for hyperhidrosis works similarly to Botox treatments for facial lines and wrinkles – by blocking nerve impulses. For hyperhidrosis treatment, Botox is injected through a tiny needle superficially under the skin and blocks the nerve impulses going to the sweat glands and temporarily blocks sweating. The effects are not permanent, however, and repeat injections are necessary when the Botox wears off.
