Skin Tags

Clinically known as acrochordons, skin tags are small, noncancerous growths that develop most often in the armpits, eyelids, groin, neck, and under the breasts. Skin tags are usually the same color as your skin and do not need to be removed unless their appearance is bothersome.

What Causes Skin Tags

In areas where the skin folds and rubs against itself repeatedly, the body produces extra cell tissue, which in many cases becomes a skin tag. The development of skin tags is often a result of the aging process. Other conditions that may trigger skin tag growth include diabetes, obesity, certain skin disorders; and pregnancy.

Skin Tag Removal AT TONDUE

If you find a skin tag on your body, we encourage you to schedule a consultation at Tondue Medical Spa. Because moles, warts, and other more serious conditions can resemble skin tags, it is important to confirm that the growth is a skin tag. The certified and highly trained Tondue team can quickly identify skin tags and/or rule out other possibilities with a brief exam.

Once the growth has been identified as a skin tag, your Tondue provider can remove the skin tag if necessary. A skin tag is typically removed using a small scalpel. The area can be numbed in advance, so patients typically report only mild discomfort. A few days after treatment, a scab will form and eventually fall off. Skin tags rarely return once fully removed.

Note: It’s important that you see a medical professional to remove skin tags. At-home, over-the-counter skin tag removal treatments may result in complications, such as scarring, infection, excessive bleeding, and incomplete removal (which will likely lead to the skin tag growing back).
