Microneedling is one of our favorite treatments when it comes to reducing scarring, fine lines, wrinkles and signs of aging.
Although it may sound a little scary, it is a minimally invasive treatment with maximum results.
What is microneedling exactly?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive and highly-effective procedure where we create controlled damage to the dermis, encouraging your skin to produce new collagen. A sterile disposable needle cartridge, holding either 12 or 36 micro-needles is glided across the skin with the Collagen P.I.N. device that mechanically induces a micro-injury to the desired depth chosen for your skin by your medical provider.
What are the results?
Microneedling improves skin texture and firmness, scars and sunspots, and can also be used to treat stretch marks. This procedure encourages cell turnover, bringing forward new, rejuvenated and glowing skin.
Why does damaging your skin help?
This method of introducing a controlled “injury” to the skin triggers a release of growth factors, new collagen and elastin, all of which your skin needs to create new cells - resulting in a more youthful appearance!
Microneedling creates hundreds of the tiniest microchannels in your skin, which allows topicals and serums to penetrate more thoroughly to reach the targeted areas. This means that instead of products sitting on the skin, they’ll really get INTO the skin, working harder, and better, ultimately producing better results and glowing skin!
Is it painful?
Prior to your treatment, we will apply a topical numbing agent to the area. Most people say they feel almost nothing after having been pretreated with a topical numbing agent.
What you will feel is the vibrations from the Collagen P.I.N. Microneedling device, which many of our clients say is actually relaxing.
Where on your body can microneedling be done?
Microneedling can be used on all skin types to address a variety of concerns, including:
How many treatments are necessary for results?
Typically a series of 3-6 treatments is recommended, depending upon your area of correction or concern. Treatments are usually spaced in four-week intervals. Patients with deep wrinkles, advanced sun damage, stretch marks, or any type of scars, usually require 6 or more treatments to achieve the desired results.
How long does it take to see results?
It is most common to begin to see true changes or positive results as soon as one to two weeks after the first treatment. Individual results vary depending on individual skin health. Many patients have seen changes in just a few days!
What are the downtime and aftercare like?
Immediately after your treatment, your skin will look slightly pink to moderately red. The feeling is like that of a minor sunburn. Over the next 5-7 days, your skin will begin to slough off the dead skin cells and turnover new ones. We recommend that you purchase the SkinMedica aftercare kit we have available at the spa to keep your skin hydrated, comfortable and protected during the healing period.
Can I wear makeup after treatment?
Directly after your treatment, we recommend using only mineral-based foundation, as it cannot build bacteria. You may go back to your regular foundation four days post-treatment.
